Die komplette Ausrüstung für ein Jahr Radreise über alle Berge nach Südindien.//
The whole equipment fo one year of cycling beyond the greatest peaks to south India.

Das ist sie: Die Ausrüstung, welche mich von Dresden nach Indien bringen und begleiten soll.
Fünf Monate Recherche, ewige Listen an Produktvergleichen, Erfahrungsberichten von Reisenden und Abwägen persönlicher Erfahrungen sind in die Entscheidungen mit eingeflossen.
Da ich von Radtechnik und Outdoorprodukten generell fasziniert bin, ermüdete mich auch das ewige Suchen und Vergleichen nicht, und das Ergebnis lässt sich sehen.
Der Moment, da ich alles erstmalig in die Taschen packte hat meine Vorbereitung bestätigt:
Es hat alles von Anfang an Platz gefunden. Ich hatte sogar noch ein paar Kapazitäten übrig, die ich dann mit Foto- und Videotechnik füllte, denn für das Dokumentarfilmprojekt, dass von Hager Moss Film aus München organisiert wird, werde ich gute Aufnahmen machen müssen. Dazu später mehr.
Zuerst die Grundprinzipien, die der Auswahl der Ausrüstung zu Grunde liegen:
Meine Route ist geprägt von Höhenlagen in denen extreme Wetterbedingungen herrschen können. Sie führt ebenso durch heiße Regionen mit Wüsten als auch abgelegenste Gegenden. Knapp 400.000 Höhenmeter stehen in dem Jahr der Reise auf dem Plan, die auf allen Arten und Abarten von Straßen liegen.
Kurzum, die Anforderungen an die Ausrüstung sind sehr hoch. Die berühmte eierlegende Wollmilchsau ist also gefragt. Leicht, widerstandsfähig, wärmend, kühlend, ökonomisch, schick, praktisch, multifunktional, simpel, hygienisch, wartungsarm, und minimalistisch.
Das sind eine Menge Anforderungen, die sich teils auch ausschließen. Somit war klar, dass ich ein wenig mehr einpacken würde als beispielsweise der bekannte Langstreckenathlet Josh Ibett, an dessen Ausrüstung seiner World-Bikepackingreise ich mich häufig orientierte.
Eine gewisse Unabhängigkeit von Zivilisationspunkten war mir wichtig, deswegen durfte ein Benzinkocher und Campingausrüstung nicht fehlen.
Temperaturen von -10° bis +40° müssen beim fahren und campen im Ernstfall auszuhalten sein.
Gleichzeitig darf das Systemgewicht nicht zu hoch werden, sonst wird meine kühne Ambition über „alle Berge“ zu fahren zur Sache des Unmöglichen.
Von Anbeginn hatte das Projekt eine sportlich ambitionierte Ausrichtung, deswegen habe ich mich gleich für das recht neue und gerade stark in Mode kommende Setup des „Bikepackings“ entschieden.
Letztendlich komme ich auf ca. 27 kg Gesamtgewicht (inkl. Fahrrad) und ein ausgiebiger Test in einer 2-tägigen Riesengebirgstour hat meine Entscheidungen bestätigt:
Durch die gute Gewichtsverteilung am Fahrrad ist das Fahrgefühl dennoch sehr angenehm und agil.
Natürlich kein Vergleich zu einem 7-Kilo Rennrad, welches ich gewohnt bin, aber definitiv besser, als ein typisches 50-Kilo Reiserad.
Die Testtour war ein ausgezeichnetes Einstiegsabenteuer, denn die Bedingungen waren, gelinde gesagt, unangenehm. Zwei Tage starker Dauerregen bei 0-6°, inklusive verschneiter Pässe und einer Passage auf einer Langlaufloipe.
Resultat: Alles perfekt wasserdicht bis auf? Die Überschuhe! Also musste ich hier noch einmal nachkorrigieren, denn die zwei Tage mit nassen und kalten Füßen waren nicht sehr motivierend.
Also habe ich noch gleich ein paar wasserdichte Socken dazu bestellt.
Auch habe ich das 42er Kettenblatt noch gegen ein 38er getauscht. Das größere Ritzel wäre zwar auf steileren Straßen kein Problem gewesen, da ich auch niedrigere Trittfrequenzen gewöhnt bin, jedoch werde ich auch viel auf unbefestigten Straßen unterwegs sein. Also sind 1-2 Extragänge nicht zu verachten.
Der Rest der Ausrüstung hat seinen Dienst vorbildlich verrichtet.
Zur Packordnung!
In den erstaunlich geräumigen Taschen sind die Gegenstände natürlich so verstaut, dass sie je nach Nutzungshäufigkeit tiefer verpackt oder leichter erreichbar sind. Natürlich wird erst die längere Reise dann zeigen, wo jedes Teil seinen besten Platz findet, aber die Grundordnung funktioniert schon jetzt sehr gut:

That's it: The equipment that I will take with me from Dresden to South India.
Five months of research, never ending lists of product comparisons, reviews of travellers and some personal experiences have been incorporated into the decisions.
As I am generally fascinated by cycling and outdoor products, all the searching and comparing did not bore me, and the results are quite impressive.
The moment when I fitted everything into my pockets for the first time has confirmed my preparation:
Everything got its proper place right from the beginning. I even had some capacities left, which I then filled with photographic and video equipment, for the documentary film project that Hager Moss Film from Munich is organizing with lots of passion. So I'll have to take some good footage. More on that later.
First to the principles concerning the choice of equipment:
My route is characterized by altitudes in which extreme weather conditions are expected. It also leads through hot regions with deserts and remote areas. Almost 400,000 meters of altitude are planned to be climbed in that year of the journey, on all types and varieties of road conditions.
In short, the requirements on the equipment are very high. The famous egg-laying Wollmilchsau is in demand. Lightweight, resistant, warming, cooling, economical, chic, practical, multifunctional, simple, hygienic, low maintenance, and minimalistic. These are a lot of requirements that sometimes exclude each other. So it was clear that I would wrap up a little more than, for example, the well-known long-distance athlete Josh Ibett, whose equipment for his World Bikepacking Tour was a good model to my planning. A certain independence of civilization was important to me, so a petrol stove and camping gear should not be missing. Temperatures from -10 °C to + 40 °C in worst case need be resisted while driving and camping. At the same time, the overall weight must not be too high, otherwise my spirited ambition to ride "beyond the greatest peaks" would become impossible. From the very beginning, the project had an athleticly ambitionated direction, so I decided to leave with the quite new and very fashionable setup of "Bikepacking". Finally, I got to about 27 kg total weight (including bicycle) and an extensive test in a 2-day-tour through the Giant Mountains has confirmed my decisions: Due to the good weight distribution on the bike, the ride is still very pleasant and agile. Of course, no comparison to a 7-kilo road bike, which I'm used to, but definitely better than a typical 50-kilo bike. The test tour was an excellent entry-level adventure because the conditions were, to say the least, unpleasant. Two days of heavy rain at 0-6 °C, including snowy sections and a passage on a cross-country skiing trail.
Result: Everything perfectly waterproof except for? The shoe covers! So I had to search others, because the two days with wet and cold feet were not very motivating.
So I just ordered some waterproof socks and different shoe covers.
Also I swapped the 42 tooth chain ring for a 38 tooth. The larger sprocket would not have been a problem on steeper paved roads, as I'm used to lower cadence but I'll also be out on unpaved roads. So 1-2 extra gears are not to be despised.
The rest of the equipment has done its job really well.
How packing is done:
In the surprisingly spacious bags, the items are of course packed the way that they are located lower or at top due to the way of frequency of use. Of course, only the longer journey will show where each part fits best, but the basic order already works quite well:
